why was elie trying to accomplish his goal

Elie wanted to create an account of his experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. He wanted to create a written legacy of the struggles that he, his father and the Jewish people endured during this time. I think Wiesel also wanted to comment on the idea of faith and loss of faith during the time they were in Hell.
