In Number the Stars, Mama shows concern over the closing of Mrs. Hirsch's shop. Why is Mama concerned?

Mama is worried because she knows the closing of their shop is only the beginning. The Germans want to eradicate the Jews, and through Mama's interactions with Peter, we know that she understands this is the beginning.... that the soliders will do worse than shut their stores.
