Number the stars

Annemarie's younger sister, Kirsti, does not remember life before the war. Even so, she's living in a dangerous and scary world in which Nazi soldiers and life-threatening situations are part of her everyday life. Annemarie puts Kristi to bed one night and tells her about a fantasy world through a fairy tale. In this fairy tale, life is magical and peaceful, and no one is scared for their lives. This is important for Kirsti to hear because her real life is filled with danger. Even though she doesn't realize a lot of what is happening around her in her daily life, these stories comfort both her and Annemarie by allowing them to dream of a better world.
