Oedipus Rex or Oedipus the King
How does Sophocles wants his audience to feel about Oedipus?
At one point in the play, Oedipus asks, "Was I not born evil? Am I not utterly unclean?"
At one point in the play, Oedipus asks, "Was I not born evil? Am I not utterly unclean?"
In my opinion, Sophocles intended the audience to be empathetic to Oedipus' sitiuation. Let's face it, he was set up to fail.... and his fate was sealed by the gods. All we can do is feel sorry for him and wait to see what happens next.
