Oedipus Rex or Oedipus the King

What do you think is the reason that the gods are so hard on Oedipus? Consider his own life and times, as well as what you know about the Greek gods from other stories you have read.

I believe he is innocent.

This is a pretty detailed question for this short answer forum space. In general, Oedipus defied his fate and tried to forge his own future. This made the God's angry.
