Describe the recurring rant that George gives Lennie? Is there more purpose to this than frustration?

George often enters into a rant about how much easier his life would be without Lennie weighing him down. I think that, other than venting, it is a routine that the two enter into that is comforting. After the rant Lennie threatens to leave and George concedes that he like having Lennie with him. It can even be considered a bonding exercise between the two.
