Authors show what characters are like by describing what they look like, what they say, and what they do. What have you learned about the characters in Of Mice and Men from their appearance, words, and actions? Give two or three examples from the book that support each statement.
George is kind at heart. He is a sensitive guy even though he often complains that his life would be simpler without Lennie. George isn't related to Lennie but Lennie's aunt Clara gave George a bond of trust. What developed is a deep friendship between the two in which George carries much of the burden. George does this willingly. Perhaps George sums his own personality up best when Lennie inadvertently kills Curley's wife. Lennie asks if George is angry at him and George replies, "I ain't mad, I ain't never been mad."
