George knew it would only be a matter of time before Lennie did something that would force them to move on. Lennie didn't know any better, but George couldn't be with him every moment, and he felt like he had to keep him safe. This warning links back to the episode earlier in the story (Chapter One) when George and Lenie were hiding while the men from Weed were searching for Lennie.
