Chapter 4
Lennie visits Crooks him his hovel beside the horse stable. This is Crooks's only personal space. He is not allowed in the bunkhouse because he is black. Although lonely, Crooks tries to hold on to a shred of power that he has. He tells Lennie to leave because it is his only space. Crooks finally relents and lets Lennie in. Candy joins them later. Curley's wife, feeling powerless herself, unleashes a tirade of hatred onto Crooks because that is the only power she has over anyone.
