As they prepare to sleep, George reminds Lennie not to say a word during their interview with the boss the following day. He also tells Lennie that if he runs into trouble, as he has so many times before, he is to return to the place where they've camped, hide in the brush and wait for George. Although the atmosphere is quiet and tranquil George's reminder to lennie has a sense of foreboding in it.
