In Of Mice and Men, where did Lennie and George grow up?

I don't believe this is given. George tells Slim that he an Lennie grew up in the same town. I don't recall a name though. I'm guessing it would have been in California. 

A Town Called "Weed"

George and Lennie grew up in Auburn.

"Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin’. Got kinda used to each other after a little while."
