Life does not always turn out the way we plan.

A theme is an underlying message in a story. A novel's themes are often revealed by what the characters say and think and by what happens in the story. Give two specific examples from the novel that support each one.

Lennie believes that he will someday be able to tend the rabbits. Unfortunately, George places limitations on whether he'll be able to attain this dream and caring for the puppy was one of them.

As for another way in which life didn't go as planned; george, Lennie, Crooks, and Candy allow themselves to dream about their own place. This dream also dies when Lennie accidently kills Curly's wife.
