This is a question that needs a lot of detail for each character. The ranch shares many of the qualities of America during the great depression. Poverty, loneliness and homelessness were a way of life in the greater society. The people on the ranch represent people of different walks of life, primarily rural, thrust together in an isolated setting. Crooks is an example of racial isolation, Candy is an example of age isolation, while Curley's wife is an example of female isolation and subservience.
