You would want to keep in character. So Curley would probably remain static. I don't see him softening up after Lennie's death. If anything he would be angry having not had the chance to shoot Lennie himself. George would be heart broken. I don't think he would care about losing his ranch job. The farm dream would be dead and George would have nothing to lose. You could have a really heated encounter between the two. I'd have Curley back down in the end because he is such a coward.
