chapter4
Candy overhears George and Lennie talking about their dream farm. He immediately is interested in being a part of it. The farm sounds like an oasis to these men. Their own land becomes a dream after working on other men's land for so long. Land ownership becomes a place of belonging: a place to call home. Candy is willing to give up his life savings for a chance at this dream. Unfortunately, in Steinbeck's world, dreams remain illusive in a world where there is so much misery and isolation.
