Similarities between George and Lennie and and Candy and his dog.

George and Lenny both shared the same type of hard work, and both of them lacked friendship in their lives. Both George and Lenny want something more in life - they are both dreamers. Their similarities lay below the surface where they appear different.

Candy and his dog have a codependent relationship, that is, both of them are dependent on each other. They are both old and decrepit, seemingly falling apart with age.

The foursome also share similarities. When Candy remarks about how he should have been the one to put his dog down, it is because of their close bond that he feels this way. George is similar to Candy when he realizes he must be the one to shoot Lenny, who killed his wife. It is because of the close bond the two shared that George must be the one to do it, as Candy should have with his dog.
