Slim is a man's man..... he's tough, good at his job, expects the best from his men..... he's respectful, encouraging, and understanding. The result..... the men respect him.

Curley is always looking for trouble, looking for reasons to intimidate the men. He is disrespectful and condescending. Thus, the workers don't like him, and they certainly do not respect him.
