Slim—A Man With God-like Eyes

Slim’s description sets him apart from the other characters “There was a gravity in his manner and a quiet so profound that all talk stopped when he spoke. His authority was so great that his word was taken on any subject, be it politics or love…His ear heard more than was said to him, and his slow speech had overtones not of thought, but of understanding beyond thought.”

He seems to accept the way the world and his accept his place in the world. He moves within his realm with a quiet acceptance that awes those who are motivated by desires or dreams.

Because Slim is not enslaved by dreams or desires, people listen to what he says and he can offer advice that enables people to do what is required of them in a world that doesn’t care.

While his acceptance gives him peace, it doesn’t give him hope; which is the reason so many people cannot simply accept life – life without hope is meaningless.
