I wonder if there are "wanderers" like George and Lennie out there. The era of the Great Depression was certainly different than it is now. Itinerant workers native to America were widespread. Today the dynamic would be different. Immigrant workers from say Mexico might take the place of George and Lennie. Still, the bond that they shared was very human and I see no reason for it not to exist in workers today who have a similar life-style.
