Chapters 3-4
Crooks feels so isolated and lonely that this little farm for the dispossessed sounds magical. Crooks, however, realises that this plan is unworkable and he would be of little use. A job for Crooks during a depression would be difficult to come by. The utopian farm dream feels very uncertain to him. Life in Crooks's world simply is not happy, he doesn't believe it is possible.
