Why is Curley's wife never mentioned by her name?

Curley's wife is so lost, lonely and insignificant that Steinbeck does not even give her a name. She acts as a symbol of loneliness and lost dreams..... she's the only female character, and she stands as an extension of her husband. We don't nee a name because we know exactly who she is.
