Why is georges character so lonely?

George is lonely because he does not have a life away from Lenny. HIs life is completely dominated by Lennys presence. He does not feel he can have friends and risk them talking to Lenny and hearing something from their past. Further, he cannot have a social life because of LEnny because he must be watched constantly. ALthough Lenny's behavior is completely innocent people don't understand it and so George must protect Lenny from people's vengeance.
