role of mr.bumble in oliver twist chapter 2

Mr. Bumble is the beadle of the parish, a fat and choleric man who takes great joy in abusing those below him, and is often offended by their impositions on him. In chapter two it is nine, Oliver is too old to stay in the orphanage, so Mr. Bumble comes to get him and take him back to the workhouse where he was born.
