How is the vivid imagery in the last scene of the story important to the development of the story’s themes?

The vivid imagery in the last scene further develops the theme of the fear of crime. The security measures implemented by the family have, in fact, forced the family to live like prisoners in their home, and the only person injured...... is their own child, who is killed as a result of their fear. This event becomes symbolic of the story’s main argument..... the argument that the fear of crime doesn't solve its root causes, and in essence, it only serves to creates a more dangerous world.
