If fairy tales normally contain a moral lesson, what would you say is the moral of “Once upon a Time”?

I think the theme of the story has to do with isolation from the rest of the world. The family keeps taking steps to protect themselves from crime and the unknown. Their own paranoia fractures their connection between themselves and the outside world.
