There aren't many similarities to "normal" life in the hospital. Life is very regimented. The days are planned and there is no freedom to deviate, especially when the day is enforced by nurse Ratched. The balance of power tips between McMurphy and Nurse Ratched. There is a psychological and social battle of wits, control, and intellect going on all the time.
