How do the patients (other then McMurphy) handle the harrassment Candy receives from the other men at the dock?

McMurphy argues with the captain, a couple of men at the dock yell disparaging comments at Candy, asking whether she is one of the insane or part of the cure for them. McMurphy exits the captain's office and tells the men to quickly get in the boat. They all jump in and push off before the captain gets off the phone.
