What does freedom mean for the patients? What does it mean for Nurse Ratched?

Freedom does not register to many of the men. Part of the reason they are institutionalized is to escape freedom: freedom has too many possibilities that they fear. It is not until McMurphy slowly introduces the concept of freedom and free will, through things like prostitutes and fishing trips, which the men begin to realize the importance of freedom to their identities.
