What does the Chief say about helping friends? How does this comment on what McMurphy is doing in the hospital?

I'm not sure where in the book you are referring to with regards to the Chief. McMurphy is rather a Christ figure. He chose to become a martyr for the other men even though he could have done more for them if he stayed alive and got out.
