Why does Nurse Ratched take away tub/card room? What happens after she does?

Ratched takes away the men's privilege of playing cards in the tub room because they didn't complete their duties after watching the World Series.... something she considered a privilege. In response, Murphy puts his hand through a window to grab a pack of cigarettes, excusing himself by saying the glass was so clean, he hadn't realized it was there.
