Oroonoko felt that essentially all men are honest and decent. His bondage into slavery came to him as a surprise. His trust in man was destroyed when he was taken as a slave on the boat. His anger at the commander of the ship is made clear, “Come, my fellow-slaves, let us descend and see if we can meet with more honour and honesty in the next world we shall touch upon”
