In this section, Desdemona is worried about Othello, but she tries to rationalize his behavior, believing that his coldness and anger must have something to do with his position. She also believes that it is possible that he is falling out of love with her. Ironically, the one thing she is sure of is that she hasn't given him reason for jealousy. Emilia, on the other hand, tries to explain to Desdemona that jealousy needs no cause....it feeds upon itself.
