It was tough being black. Even though Othello was considered to be hyper-masculine and a great warrior, he was always a moor. These lines represent his own insecurities about his color. He equates Desdemona, a victim of slander, to his own imperfect skin color. Othello uses his black skin to represent blemish of both character and appearance.
