I suppose you can make the Christian interpretation of modern man turning away from God to pursue money and power in the Earthly world. Man rejects God's grace in order to be powerful in his temporal world. Like Satan, Man claims he does not need God or God's rules.

Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven.
