what provoked satan to divert "our grand parents" from their original relationship god?

Satan is obviously a fallen angel who already tried and failed to war against God for the position of the most high. After being thrown down into Hell, Satan vows to attack God once again by attacking his prized creation, mankind. This is his "provocation" for diverting "our grand parents" from their pure relationship with God.

I think his intent was to "to make his throne higher than the clouds over the earth and resemble 'My power' on high". Satan wanted followers who might rebel against God and follow him.
