Paradise Lost is written by the author John Milton, often considered to be one of the three greatest English authors along with Chaucer and Shakespeare. He was a Puritan and was an important propagandist during the time of Oliver Cromwell. He went blind later in his life, and he was "hunted" by the realm of Charles II when Charles returned to the throne. Many of his great works, including this one, were written by dictating the story to a secretary who then wrote down the stories for him.
