Percy Shelley: Poems
The poem can be seen as metaphor for nature's awe inspiring grace and power. It tames the clouds and the ocean. The "West Wind" wields her strength over land and sea both destroying and creating all that lay within her path. Can this personify Shelly in some way? Percy Shelly had an unconventional lifestyle and a strong sense of individuality. Both of these traits can be seen in the poem. Percy Shelly would see the world in his way and, like the West Wind, his inspiration moulded the people and events of his life.
