There is the sheep symbolism of much of the Iranian population blindly following the State. There is also the symbolism of outer space. Marjane imagines floating, alone, in empty space, “lost, without any bearings....” A shout interrupts her dream. Her parents yell for her to run to the basement because “we’re being bombed!”
