According to the introduction, Satrapi's intent is to dispel the idea that the people is Iran are primarily made up of fundamentalists, fanatics, and terrorists. The existence of this stereotype is the reason she's written the novel. Satrapi firmly believes "that an entire nation should not be judged by the wrongdoings of a few extremists.”
