Why does marjane have mixed feelings toward the veil and religion?

For many the veil and religion represents conforming to a higher power with no sense of individuality or gender. Satrapi uses this veil to symbolize her transitions in her Persepolis, from her state of conformity, to her rejection of theocratic power and control over women.
