what can you infer about sir walter by the additions he makes to the book containing the family's history?

Sir Walter's addtions are most often attributed to his vanity, something of which he was guilty. None-the-less, if you really look at his words, there is also pride in his family and a note about the loss of his wife. From this, we might also infer that Sir Walter is a bit sentimental, in addtion, to being most accurate. None-the-less, his final addition speaks to his title, place in society, and inheritance...... these are the things that seem to be most important to him.
