Was Edgar Allan Poe depressed or really dark? because his poems are really dark and have death in them.

People debate this all the time. I remember talking about this in high school and that was a long time ago! Poe was a raging alcoholic so his dark tone might have something to do with that. He was also thought to have suffered from depression although I'm not sure how sensitive they were to that at the time.
