Discuss the theme of disapointment in the novel The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Joyce learns to deal with disappointment as he matures and makes adjustments to his religious and moral beliefs. The religion and morals he was raised with are too hard for him to live with; therefore he walks away so he can learn to live without the guilt of his disappointments.
