Austen liberally uses irony to illuminate character flaws in her characters. Mrs. Bennet is made to look foolish and ignorant; “Well, my comfort is, I am sure Jane will die of a broken heart, and then he will be sorry for what he has done” (Page 148) Whereas, Mr. Collins is made to be a hypocrite; “You ought certainly to forgive them as a Christian, but never to admit them in your sight, or allow their names to be mentioned in your hearing." (Page 232)
