When, the next day, Elizabeth relates to Jane the substance of her conversation with Wickham, Jane refuses to think ill of either Wickham or Darcy, and assumes that they must in some way be mutually deceived. Jane really is submissive when it comes to men of high social stature. She refuses to pass judgment on rich single men who appear to have manners. Elizabeth is more fiery. She has opinions regardless of social status or gender. Although quick to judge Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth has a mind of her own and is not afraid to voice her concerns.
