One way in which Austen uses dialogue to develop Elizabeth's character is the way, in which, Elizabeth is introduced to Mr. Darcy. Darcy is conversing with another man, and Elizabeth is eavesdropping. Mr. Darcy's pride and character are developed through his statements about dancing at the Meryton ball, specifically, dancing with Elizabeth. In contrast, Lizzie's character is developed through her responses to the dialogue she has overheard, in which, she can easily be viewed as narrow minded, as well as prideful herself.
