Mrs. Bennett hopes that the weather will be bad and Elizabeth will be forced to stay the night and get to know Mr. Bingley better. She wants Elizabeth to Mary Mr. Bingley.
Mrs. Bennet conspired to send Jane by horse rather than coach, knowing that it will rain and that Jane will consequently have to spend the night at Mr. Bingley’s house. She thought that if Jane and Mr.Bingley would be in the same house, the would get to know each other better and gradually fall in love, and later marry.
