How do you think Kambili is affected by the political situation described in the novel?

Kambibli was raised in a devout Catholic family, is sheltered, and raised with discipline. She's a quiet girl, but as the political situation changes, she goes to live with her Aunt (very liberal aunt), and learns to stand up for herself.
