Why is it impossible for Kambili to spend some time with her classmates after school? What do they think of her because of this?

She is not allowed to dally after school lest she be late and beaten. She has to do chores and homework. Other girls consider Kambili a “backyard snob” and that she thinks she is better than them because she never socializes after school.
