Mrs. Higgins is the "mother" figure that Eliza runs to when she needs advice; Mr Higgin's home is stressful. He's demeaning toward Eliza, and in the the words of his maid, "you can't take a girl up like that as if you were picking up a pebble on the beach" (2.101).
One home is welcoming; the other filled with stress.
